Niger State Assembly urges Gov. Umaru Bago to salvage health section.
Niger State House of Assembly committee on health has urged the state government to salvage the health sector.
Chairman of the committe and member representing Paikoro constituency Pharmacist Umar Nasir made the call during the 2024 budget screening of the ministry of health
Umar Nasir said providing adequate funding to health sector is essential towards achieving universal health coverage.
He said although they are not satisfied with the budget performance of the year under review, they are optimistic that the 2024 budget would be Better because of the funds allocated to the ministry.
The state commissioner of primary health care Dr Ibrahim Ahmed Dangana said the state health sector’s problems include a massive shortfall of doctors and other medical professionals, who are relocating, dead and on retirement noting that, the ministry has addressed some of the issue of manpower shortage through the existing programme they have with there development partners.
The commissioner explained that the state government in its Twenty twenty four budget has approved the renovation of primary healthcare centres across the twenty five local government areas of the state.
