Niger Ministry of LG Organizes Retreat to Build Capacity of Council Chairmen
Niger State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has organized a retreat in order to improve the capaciy and enhanced effective service delivery of the Local Government Council Chairmen in the state.
The retreat with the Theme: Empowering Local Government Leaders for Sustainable Development; Strategies, Challenges and Opportunities had in attendance Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger state and Alhaji Mu’azu Hamidu Jantabo as the host and the chairman of the occasion was held at the Niger State Liaison Office in Abuja.
This was contained in an afficial statement issued yesterday, noted that
the retreat was aimed at providing a valuable and transformative experience for the council chairmen, explicitly focusing on empowering them as leaders to promote sustainable development at the grassroot levels.
Apparently, the retreat will serve as a platform for sharing knowledge, building capacities, and establishing networks, enabling the council chairpersons to enhance their leadership abilities and make meaningful contributions to the development of Niger state.
Niger state Governor Mohammed Umar Bago while declaring open the retreat, advised the council leaders to stay focused, resolute and resist distractions from any quarters to enhance progress in their respective areas.
Governor Bago emphasized that local governments especially in rural areas should capitalize on their comparative advantages by focusing on agriculture and its value chain, while he highlighted the significant potential for generating income through agricultural-related activities.
According to the statement, Prof. Yahya Kuta with other professionals like Prof. MT Usman spoke extensively on the
Niger State Green Economy especially on its prospects to the state
Other speakers included Barr. Maurice Magaji, Commissioner of Lands and Survey, the former Accountant General of the State, Mr. Richard Umaru, Mr. Akibu Jafaru among others.
The strategic venue of the retreat came with low cost for the state which has also kept the participants from distraction just as the major speakers were drawn from the state as well, hence most of the chairpersons shared their thoughts on the benefits and key takeaways from the event.
