Nigeria Red cross Society Commiserate with People of Mokwa local Govt over Boat Mishap.
The National President of the Nigerian Redcross Society,Prince Yemisi Adeaga has commiserated with the Chairman of Mokwa Local Government Council in Niger State over the recent Boat mishap that claimed many lives and property.
The National President ,Prince Yemisi Adeaga spoke through the Niger state Branch Chairman, Alhaji Hamisu Musa Jankaro when he led other Governing board and management of the Branch to the visit at the council Secretariat in Mokwa.
Prince Yemisi said they were in Mokwa to share the moment of grief with him and the entire people of Mokwa over the tragic incident.
He said Red cross deemed it fit to sympatize with them and prayed God to avert future reoccurrence of the incident.
Prince Yemisi Adeaga has informed the . Council chairman that Red cross is an humanitarian organization that assist people to ameliorate their sufferings in case of natural disasters.
The Red cross National President appealed to the council chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Jibrin Miuregi to synergise with Community and vigilantes with a view to check mating the unnecessary over loading of passengers on a Boat.
Also in his remarks during the visit,the state Branch Secretary of Red cross,Mister Gideon Adamu Paiko urged the people of Mokwa to take the incident as an act God and prayed God to forgive and grant those who lost their lives and prayed for quick recovery of those injured.
Mister Gideon Adamu Paiko said Lagdo Dam in Cameroon has released excessive water and advised riverine communities in the state to take precautionary measures to avoid lost of lives and property of the people.
Also speaking during the visit,the State Health Adviser of Red cross,Dr.Yahaya Madaki warned people of the area that hence forth live jacket should be used by all passengers traveling on canoes or Boat to guard against lost of lives and property.
Responding,the Chairman of Mokwa Local Government, Alhaji Jibrin Abdullahi Miuregi who was represented by the council vice Chairman,Alhaji Aliyu Kimbokun thanked the National President of the Nigerian Red cross and his team for the visit and prayed God to reward them abundantly.
He promised to deliver their message to the Ndalele of Mokwa ,Alhaji Mohammed Shaba Aliyu on their visit.
It would be recalled that Twenty Nine people are reported to have lost their lives when a canoe capsized in Gbajibo river between Jabba and Kainji Dams in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger state.
The victims of the boat mishap who are most women including pregnant women from Gbajibo,Ekwa and Yankyade communities were said to have going to their farms at Gidan Mangoro when the incident occured.
As at the time of compiling this reports staff of the state Emergency Management Agency,NEMA,
in collaboration with the Mokwa Local Government Council and the community local divers are conducting a search, rescue and recovery operation at the scene of the incident.
It adds that so far, Sixty six people have been rescued.
Over 100 persons are said to be on board the Boat when the incident occured.
