Controller Corrections calls on Bago to facilitate release of inmates Pardoned by former governnor
About 24 Inmates serving various jail terms in Niger state Correctional centers have been granted Pardon on the order of the Controller General of Correctional Services, Haliru Nababa ficmc mfr mni in his efforts to decongest Correctional centers across the Country.
While performing the symbolic release of the Inmates,the Controller Corrections,Niger state Command, Salman Abubakar fsi said the pardon inmates where released base on their good behavior while serving their jail terms,I’ll health and those who have less than six months to complete their jail terms.
Controller Salman stated that one inmate is been released in Suleja Correctional center,one in Bida,two in Minna old correctional center and twenty inmates are been pardoned in New correctional center Minna.
Salman Abubakar charge them to be of good behavior and not to indulge in any act that would bring them back to prison ” I urge you to make use of this opportunity which is your last chance to change your way of living and improve on your life and that of your family”he warned them.
He disclosed that the initial eighty (80) inmates initially granted pardon by the former governor Abubakar Sani Bello were still laying in the correctional centers across the state for none settlement of their fines, promised by the past administration.
He disclosed that the past administration had approved the release of Twenty (20) million naira for the settlement of various fines of eighty inmates in the state Correctional centers which was not accessed.
He stressed that he has started discussing with the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice on how to access the money so that those granted Pardon can regained their freedom.
He then appealed to Governor Muhammad Umar Bago, to assist in ensuring that the money is released, hence government is a continuous one.
