Niger State Government Secures $150 Million Loan from IsDB for $160 Million Solar Project

The Niger government has obtained a $150 million US dollar (USD) loan from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) for a solar project in the state.
The Chairman of the New Niger Development Project (NNDP), Alhaji Mustapha Abubakar Bida, announced this during the second quarterly media briefing organized by the Ministry of Information and Orientation.
He stated that the project will cost $160 million USD, with the state government contributing $10 million USD as a matching fund.
Alhaji Abubakar Bida also mentioned that the loan was secured because of the state’s effective management of the Minna-Bida road project.
He explained that the project, to be located in Maikunkele, will benefit the local community and include social intervention components that will positively impact residents.
According to him, “This project will create direct and indirect jobs and will bring many other benefits.”
Alhaji Abubakar Bida explained that the NNDP was established under Executive Order 30, 2023, primarily to support project implementation by various MDAs responsible for project execution and to address any gaps that could hinder project success.
He added that the NNDP also ensures that issues related to compensation are handled effectively and efficiently through collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth project completion.
Alhaji Abubakar Bida further stated that the staff of the NNDP were carefully selected from various MDAs to provide effective service and ensure value for money in project execution.
