Niger State AFAN Inaugurates New Executive Council for Three-Year Term
Niger State Chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has inaugurated its State Executive Council to oversee the organization for the next three years, with Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Manko elected as chairman.
The election was conducted by affirmation, with all positions uncontested and filled by consensus at a formal gathering in Minna, Niger State’s capital.
During the proceedings, AFAN’s National President, Mohammed Magaji Gettado, praised the unity and peaceful conduct of the election, describing it as seamless.
Represented by the National Organizing Secretary, Salisu Muktar, he urged the new leadership to promote inclusivity and maintain an open-door policy to ensure lasting harmony and progress at the state level.
He also emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting farmers this year, including ongoing registration efforts targeting 30 million members nationwide. Additionally, the federal government is preparing to distribute free inputs to 3.04 million farmers by next week.
In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Manko pledged to leverage his extensive experience for the benefit of the organization. He assured the leadership’s dedication to fairness and justice for all, aiming to foster peace, unity, transparency, and innovation within Niger State AFAN.
Following his inauguration, Manko noted that about 2.7 million farmers are registered in the state, alongside 40 commodity farmers’ associations. He reaffirmed his commitment to implementing farmer-friendly policies, promoting peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders, working collaboratively with the 25 local government areas, and increasing input support for farmers across the state.
Other executives who received their certificates of return and took the oath of office include: Salihu Idris Shanu (Deputy Chairman), Umar Dan-Asebe (Treasurer), Baba Alhaji Tarko (Organizing Secretary), Salihu Jibrin (Assistant Secretary), Sani Aliyu (Financial Secretary), Shehu Kamai (PRO), Salle Abdullahi (Woman Leader), Nasiru Attahiru (Auditor), Usman Kwatu (Ex-Officio), and Mohammed Mohammed (Youth Leader), among others.
