President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his dedication to establishing a state police system as part of efforts to address Nigeria’s security issues.
The President made this pledge on Monday night during an interfaith breaking of fast hosted at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The event was attended by Muslim and Christian leaders observing Ramadan and Lent.
During his address, Tinubu emphasized that his administration remains committed to fulfilling its campaign promises, highlighting security as a fundamental component of national development.
He stated that peace and stability are crucial for economic growth and social progress, noting that no meaningful advancement can occur amidst insecurity.
The President explained that the proposed state police framework would enable sub-national governments to assume greater responsibility for community protection while maintaining a coordinated national security system.
Tinubu also called on governors to enhance grassroots engagement, especially in communities where citizens feel marginalized.
He underscored that development should be free from influence by religion, ethnicity, or social class, advocating for leadership rooted in fairness and shared responsibility.
Furthermore, the President urged state leaders to expand humanitarian efforts during the Holy Season, reflecting governance characterized by empathy and inclusiveness.
Expressing confidence in Nigeria’s future, Tinubu stated that greater safety and strength could be achieved through collaborative efforts among all levels of government to implement necessary reforms.
