Vice President Kashim Shettima Arrives in Ilorin Amid Response to Woro Attack
Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, on Saturday morning, following the tragic massacre in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area, where over 100 people were killed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists last Tuesday.
He was received at Tunde Idiagbon International Airport by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Kwara North Senator Sadiq Umar, and other state officials.
The vice president is scheduled to meet with local stakeholders, including the village head of Woro, the Emir of Kaiama, local government officials, and security officers.
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of a military battalion to the affected area.
On the night of the attack, gunmen allegedly linked to Boko Haram invaded Woro, setting homes ablaze and killing more than 100 residents. An unspecified number of women and girls were also abducted.
A mass burial for 75 victims was conducted on Wednesday according to Islamic rites. Many wounded individuals have been hospitalized, with some already discharged.
The attack on Woro has elicited widespread condemnation from both local and international communities.
