Niger State Inf. Commissioner Calls for Unified Security Communication to Address Insecurity
The Niger State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana, emphasized the importance of a unified and effective security communication strategy across the state to combat persistent insecurity, which remains a top concern for Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.
During a courtesy visit from the Forum of Security Spokespersons in Niger State (FOSSAN), Hon. Nana highlighted that coordinated and responsible information dissemination is vital for maintaining peace, public confidence, and stability.
He cautioned that unverified or conflicting messages could incite panic, spread misinformation, and undermine security efforts.
The Commissioner expressed the government’s aim for all security spokespersons to speak with a unified voice, based on verified facts and aligned with the administration’s security objectives under the New Niger Agenda.
He assured the Forum of the Ministry’s commitment to provide a platform for ongoing coordination, engagement, and collaboration with security communication officers to ensure timely and accurate public information.
He also reiterated that Governor Bago prioritizes media and information management, especially regarding security, and that the Ministry will continue working closely with security agencies to uphold professionalism and consistency in communication.
Hon. Nana proposed leveraging the platform to foster better coordination between the Ministry and FOSSAN, with plans to soon initiate visits to relevant security stakeholders to enhance collaboration.
CSP Rabiu Mohammed Shuaibu of the Nigerian Correctional Service, leader of the FOSSAN delegation, indicated that the visit aimed to strengthen institutional synergy and partnership with the Ministry of Information and Orientation.
He explained that the Forum seeks to harmonize security messages across agencies, reduce contradictions, and promote a narrative supportive of peace and security.
Shuaibu stated that speaking with a single voice would boost public trust and inter-agency cooperation, especially during crises. Though established over two decades ago, the Forum is receiving renewed support from the Ministry, reaffirming its commitment to improving security information management and fostering collaboration among security agencies and media.
Representatives from the Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigerian Customs, Fire Services (Federal and State), Nigerian Police, VIO, and NDLEA participated in the visit, which concluded with mutual assurances to maintain ongoing collaboration for the safety and well-being of Niger State residents.
