Government’s Inadequate Security Efforts Threaten Its Legitimacy, Says Kwankwaso

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has criticized the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for lacking the political resolve to tackle Nigeria’s escalating insecurity.
Kwankwaso made the remarks on Tuesday in Kano during the unveiling of 2,000 operatives of the Kano State Neighborhood Security Network. He called on President Tinubu to demonstrate stronger leadership and act decisively as Commander-in-Chief in addressing banditry and related security challenges.
While acknowledging the bravery and professionalism of Nigeria’s military, Kwankwaso expressed concern over insufficient support and clear direction from the government. He lamented the ongoing loss of innocent lives amid perceived government laxity in combating insecurity, emphasizing the need for accountability.
Former Minister of Defense, Kwankwaso, highlighted that Nigeria’s armed forces have historically been among the best globally, provided they receive adequate support and leadership. He pledged that if elected president in 2027, he would recruit over one million additional military personnel to enhance national security.
He stated, “Any government that fails to protect the lives and property of its citizens has failed woefully and has no business remaining in office.” Kwankwaso also called for the integration of community-based security initiatives, like the Kano Neighborhood Security Network, into the national security framework to bolster morale and intelligence efforts against criminal elements
