The Bauchi state government has initiated the local production of exercise books and chalks, aiming to enhance academic performance across schools in the state.
Dr. Muhammed Lawal, the Commissioner for Education, announced this development during an inspection of the production site at the Education Resource Centre (ERC) in Bauchi on Friday.
Dr. Lawal highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating that the state is not only producing exercise books and chalks but is also rebranding a variety of textbooks to reflect a fresh and modern appearance. He emphasized the importance of local production, saying, “The fact that we can produce exercise books in Bauchi state is a great achievement for this administration,” attributing the success to the support of Governor Bala Mohammed.
By establishing local production capabilities, the state aims to reduce reliance on overseas suppliers and eliminate substandard materials often provided by unqualified contractors. “There is no point going to China,” Lawal remarked, expressing his satisfaction with the progress made at the production site.
The commissioner noted that the production center represents the state government’s commitment to improving education services and ensuring that schools are supplied with locally made, quality educational materials. “The primary aim of setting up the production site was to provide ‘home-made products’,” he said.
Looking ahead, Dr. Lawal expressed aspirations for future export of these products as a means of generating revenue for both the state and the ministry. “When we are well fed, then we can think of exporting these chalks for revenue generation,” he explained.
Kabiru Ahmed, Director of the Education Resource Centre, praised the dedicated workforce for their efficiency and commitment, which has significantly contributed to the successful production of exercise books, chalks, and rebranded textbooks in the state. The initiative marks a pivotal step towards enhancing educational resources and fostering academic excellence in Bauchi state.
