Ibas Bids Farewell to Rivers State as Fubara’s Return Approache.

As the September 18 deadline for lifting the emergency rule in Rivers State approaches, Sole Administrator Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ette Ekwe Ibas has officially bid farewell to the citizens of the state.
Appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in March to restore stability in Rivers following a period of political unrest, Ibas has announced plans for a grand thanksgiving service to commemorate the conclusion of his six-month tenure. The inter-denominational event is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Ecumenical Centre on Abonnema Wharf Road in Port Harcourt.
According to Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, the Secretary to the State Government, the service will gather distinguished government officials, traditional rulers, security chiefs, local government chairmen, and notable industry leaders, with Ibas serving as the special guest of honor.
In his final days in office, Ibas also inaugurated the newly constituted Rivers State Pensions Board, aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficiency in managing retirees’ benefits.
During the ceremony at the Government House, Ibas emphasized the importance of restoring dignity to pensioners who have long faced delays and administrative challenges.
“This initiative is not merely ceremonial,” Ibas remarked. “It is a commitment to the retirees who have waited long enough. The new board must achieve results without excuses.”
