The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a woman named Zaliha Shuaibu for the alleged murder of her co-wife’s three-month-old baby boy in Malari Village, located in the Soba Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on May 13, 2025, at the home shared by the suspect, her husband, and the victim’s mother, Maryam Ibrahim.
According to a statement made available to journalists by the command’s spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, Ibrahim had briefly left her son alone in her room while she went to the bathroom. Upon her return, she found Shuaibu holding the baby.
When Zaliha returned the child to Maryam, the infant was found in an alarming condition, with foam coming from his mouth and an injury on his neck, which ultimately led to his death.
“Initial investigations revealed that Maryam Ibrahim had stepped out to use the restroom, leaving her infant son in her room,” Hassan explained. “Upon her return, she discovered her co-wife, Zaliha, holding the baby. Zaliha handed the child back to Maryam, who immediately noticed foam coming from the baby’s mouth and an injury on his neck. The child was crying and was rushed to the village hospital, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.”
Hassan further reported that a thorough investigation determined that Shuaibu was responsible for the baby’s death, aided by a conspiracy involving her and her husband’s younger brother, Lawal Muhammad, who is currently at large. Shuaibu confessed to using acid to harm the infant.
“Following the incident, the DPO of Soba took action and arrested Zaliha Shuaibu. During interrogation, she confessed to the crime and revealed that she conspired with her husband’s junior brother, who provided her with the acid used in the act,” Hassan stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, assured the public that justice would be served and that all those involved in the crime would face prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
