Inspector-General of Police Presents Insurance Cheques to Families of Fallen Officers.

By Yahaya Zakka Minna

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, took significant steps to enhance the welfare of police personnel and their families by presenting Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Insurance cheques to the next of kin of 1,235 fallen officers.

The event was held at the IGP Smart Conference Hall, Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja, with attendance from the Force Management Team, senior police officers, insurance industry stakeholders, and the beneficiaries.

In his address, the IGP underscored the values that underpin the Nigeria Police Force: service, integrity, and sacrifice. He reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to the welfare of its officers and pledged to honor the legacies of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, acknowledging that no compensation can truly replace a lost life.

The IGP emphasized the importance of this initiative in addressing long-standing arrears of death benefit claims spanning several years.

To date, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully disbursed benefits to 7,076 beneficiaries across nine phases, totaling over N20 billion. In this tenth phase, an additional N2.85 billion was distributed to 1,235 beneficiaries, raising the total insurance benefits provided to N22.98 billion, thereby supporting 8,311 families.

Dr. Egbetokun reiterated the current leadership’s commitment to providing support for the families of fallen officers and improving the welfare of both serving and retired personnel.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his ongoing support of the Force’s initiatives. The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to ensure that no next-of-kin is left in uncertainty regarding their welfare.
