Parents Criticize Delay in Federal Civil Service Recruitment

By our correspondent

Some parents, representing the National Association of Concerned Parents (NACP), have voiced concerns over the postponement of the recruitment process for young Nigerians by the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC).

During a news conference on Thursday, the association, led by National President Nantip Namdap and National Secretary Obong Akpan, called on the commission’s Chairman, Prof. Tunji Olaopa, to inform Nigerians about the reasons for the delay.

The press briefing was titled: ‘A Generation Kept Waiting: The Federal Civil Service Commission Owes Nigerian Youths an Explanation.’

In January 2025, the commission opened its application portal for federal civil service recruitment.

FCSC Head of Media and Public Relations Taiwo Hassan stated that the recruitment announcement had been posted on the commission’s website and in selected newspapers.

Applicants were asked to upload vital documents such as their resumes, degree certificates, birth certificates or age declarations, local government ID, and NYSC discharge or exemption certificates.

However, the NACP leaders pointed out that for thousands of young Nigerians, applying should go beyond simply submitting applications.

“It should be a step toward dignity, financial independence, and contributing to national development.”

They emphasized that many applicants have been waiting over two years after completing the process, yet remain uncertain about their status.

“No exams have been held, no clear schedule has been provided, and no satisfactory explanation has been given.

“This extended silence impacts more than administration delays. It stunts careers, disrupts life plans, and deepens frustrations among a generation already facing unemployment and financial challenges.

“Every month of delay is another missed opportunity for capable Nigerians eager to serve in public roles,” the parents stated.

They underlined that the commission has a duty not only to hire qualified candidates but also to do so transparently, efficiently, and responsibly.

Applicants deserve consistent updates, transparent communication, and a defined plan to finish the recruitment.

“Therefore, we respectfully but urgently urge the FCSC chairman to provide answers.”

“If unforeseen issues have caused delays, they must be openly explained. If a new schedule exists, it should be announced. Transparency fosters trust; silence damages it.

“The hopes of thousands of young Nigerians should not be indefinitely put on hold,” they added.

The parents argued that public institutions are meant to serve the people, and timely communication is a fundamental part of that service.

“Our young people’s futures cannot remain uncertain. It’s time to clarify, rebuild confidence, and complete the recruitment process promptly,” they concluded.
