Niger Liquor Board sealed Eleven Beer parlours in Mokwa,Lavun and Edati,,Houses risk forfeiture by Govt.

By Our Correspondent.

The Niger State Liquor Licensing Board has closed down eleven illegal beer parlors located in the Mokwa, Lavun, and Edati areas.

The closures were initiated due to the beer parlors’ failure to comply with the Board’s regulations concerning the sale and consumption of alcohol.

A monitoring team, acting on the directive of the Director General of the Liquor Licensing Board, Barr Yahaya Halidu, conducted a routine inspection of these establishments and found that they lacked the necessary licenses, rendering their operations illegal.

Furthermore, some of these beer parlors were located in areas deemed unsuitable for selling and consuming alcohol.

The owners of the closed beer parlors have been warned that any attempt to reopen them will result in severe penalties, as specified in the state’s liquor licensing laws.

In a related development, the team discovered a hotel adjacent to a Jimma’a mosque in Mokwa that was allegedly housing prostitutes, making it uncomfortable for worshippers. This hotel, which has about fifty rooms, poses challenges for the community’s prayer activities.

The team spoke with the rightful owner of the hotel, who expressed interest in selling the property to someone who could either expand the mosque or establish an Islamic school for the community.

Barr Yahaya Halidu urged the public to refrain from renting their properties to beer vendors or prostitutes, as such actions could lead to government forfeiture of their properties.
