NUMW distances members from mining landslides victims in Galkogo.

The Chairman Nigerian Union of Mines Workers, Niger state chapter, Comrade. Musa Adamu Nasko has distanced the union from the incident of land collapse that led to the loss of more than thirty labourers in Shiroro local government area of the state recently.
Comrade Nasko said that the victims who loss their lives during the collapse are not miners,but labourers working under a company that owned the mining company hence need for Union to distance itself and it members from the company because is not a registered member of the Union.
The Chairman mentioned while briefing Journalists in his office that four years back the Union took the Company to Court because of his refusal to register with the Union.seeing that most of his workers are our members he then terminated their services.
According to him NUMW is aware that the state government has enacted a law to stopping mining activities in this state,accordingly the union has already adhered to the law, and should you see anyone in the forest, in the name of artisans minner, “I can assure you that he is not our member”.
He stressed that NUMW is a law abiding union, an affiliate of the National Labor Union as a recognized Union and accepted by the state government.
We therefore, called on all members to be more cautious on this position and to henceforth desist from mining activities in the state
