NSERC Conducts Capacity Building Training on Niger State Electricity Market Frameworks.

The Niger State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NSERC), in partnership with Greenbridge Partners and the German Cooperation (GIZ), has started a two-day Capacity Building Training on “Understanding the Niger State Electricity Market and Its Legal & Regulatory Frameworks.”
The training, held from May 25 to 26, 2026, at the Avant Garde Hotel in Minna, aims to improve stakeholders’ understanding of the legal, regulatory, and commercial aspects of the electricity sector in Niger State.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman and CEO of NSERC, Engr. Mohamed Sharu, FNSE, welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of enhancing institutional knowledge and stakeholder involvement for the successful implementation of the Niger State Electricity Market (NSEM).
He emphasized that developing technical and regulatory capacity is vital for creating a transparent, efficient, and sustainable electricity market that can meet the state’s increasing energy demands.
Delivering a goodwill message, Justice Mohamed Mohamed praised NSERC and its development partners for organizing the training, stressing the crucial role of legal and regulatory compliance in promoting accountability, transparency, and sustainability in the electricity sector.
Representatives from Greenbridge Partners and GIZ also reiterated their support for electricity sector reforms, institutional capacity building, and renewable energy initiatives in Niger State.

Key topics covered during the training included Regulatory Compliance in the NSEM Framework, Fundamentals of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), Understanding Contracts for Non-Lawyers, and Understanding Project Financing for Renewable Energy Projects.
Facilitators and participants engaged in meaningful discussions aimed at increasing understanding of the legal, regulatory, financial, and commercial aspects of the electricity industry.
Participants expressed their appreciation to NSERC and its partners for organizing the valuable training program. They are confident that this initiative will play a significant role in advancing the growth and development of Niger State’s electricity market.
