BREAKING: Tinubu Removes Two Ministers
President Tinubu has dismissed Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, along with Umar Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
This information was disclosed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, through a official memo.
Edun has been instructed to transfer responsibilities to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who will now serve as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously held the position of Minister of State for Finance.
Additionally, Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, PhD, has been appointed as the ministerial nominee and designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
The memo also indicated that Dangiwa is to hand over duties to the Minister of State in his ministry.
All transition processes are expected to be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, 23rd April 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume stated: “These changes aim to foster cohesion and synergy within governance, thereby delivering more effective economic management to Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
He further noted that President Tinubu exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving this cabinet reshuffle.
The President expressed gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them success in their future pursuits.
Akume assured all cabinet members that “the process of reinvigoration will be ongoing.”
