Tinubu Signs 2026 Appropriation Bill and 2025 Budget Extension Into Law

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced on Friday that he signed the ₦68.32 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law.

This information was shared in a statement by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The 2026 Appropriation Bill authorizes a total expenditure of ₦68.32 trillion. Additionally, he signed a bill extending the implementation period for the 2025 budget from March 31, 2026, to June 30, 2026.

The ₦68.32 trillion budget allocates ₦4.799 trillion to statutory transfers and ₦15.8 trillion to debt service.

It designates ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent expenses and ₦32.2 trillion for the Development Fund for Capital Expenditure.

With capital expenditure accounting for about 50 percent of the budget, the 2026 budget underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to economic stability, national security, infrastructure development, and inclusive growth.

The allocations reflect a strategic balance among statutory obligations, debt servicing, recurrent costs, and capital investments—key to boosting productivity and improving Nigerians’ quality of life.

Additionally, the President has signed the Appropriation (Repeal and Enactment) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which extends the implementation period of the capital part of the 2025 Appropriation Act from March 31, 2026, to June 30, 2026.

This extension ensures the full and effective use of funds allocated, especially for critical infrastructure and development projects already underway across the country.

It allows Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to consolidate ongoing work, improve project completion, and maximize public spending value.

With the 2026 Appropriation Act effective April 1, the Federal Government will proceed with full implementation in accordance with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Tinubu directed MDAs to apply resources responsibly, transparently, and efficiently, stressing value for money and timely project delivery.

He commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their diligence, cooperation, and patriotism in quickly passing the budget.

The President emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the Executive and Legislative branches to achieve national development goals.

He also reassured Nigerians of his administration’s dedication to deepening fiscal reforms, increasing revenue, and investing in initiatives that promote economic growth, job creation, and better social protection.
