About 110 bandits were neutralized in Shiroro LGA.
The Niger State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security in Shiroro Local Government Area following recent banditry attacks in communities such as Bagna and Yelwa.
Hon. Nuhu Nana, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, stated that a coordinated and sustained effort by security forces, including the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilante groups, has made significant progress in ongoing clearance operations.
Security agencies confirmed that 110 bandits were neutralized across several locations as they pulled back under pressure from security forces.
The detailed figures are as follows:
Lantan Village (Erena Ward): 47
Lakupe (Kwaki Ward): 21
Luwidna (Kwaki Ward): 16
Farin Kasa (Allawa Ward): 20
– Rafin Barden Dawaki (Kurebe Ward): 6
These results demonstrate the effectiveness and resilience of current joint operations aimed at dispersing criminal elements and restoring order.
The government, however, expresses deep regret over the loss of security personnel and innocent civilians during these efforts.
Fourteen vigilante members, including the commander in Bagna, along with two civilians—including a woman—lost their lives. The State Government extends heartfelt condolences to their families and communities, recognizing their bravery.
As operations continue, residents are urged to stay vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas, and cooperate with security agencies.
Citizens are also encouraged to provide credible, timely information to support ongoing security efforts.
The government assures that all necessary measures are being taken to protect lives and property, with additional reinforcements and strategic initiatives deployed to sustain progress and prevent further attacks.
Hon. Nuhu Nana emphasizes that the situation remains closely monitored and managed. The government calls for calm, unity, and collective effort as it works to restore lasting peace across Shiroro LGA and beyond.
