Ohanaeze Ndigbo Niger State Elects New Executives to Strengthen Unity and Culture
A new leadership has been inaugurated for the Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Niger State chapter. The new officials have pledged to build upon the legacy handed over by founding members, emphasizing unity and cultural preservation.
The ceremony, held at Haske Hotel, Tunga Minna, saw the swearing-in of a 21-member executive team, representing Ndigbo across the 25 Local Government Areas of Niger State.Dr. Martin Orji was inaugurated as President, with Barrister Sabastien Ugbogu serving as State Secretary.
The leadership team also includes Deputy Presidents from Anambra, Delta, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states, along with key officers such as Kenneth Okoro Nwoga (Assistant Secretary), Pastor Daniel Okoro (Treasurer), Dr. Chika E. Odo (State Women Leader), and other advisers and officers.
In his remarks, the outgoing President, Chief Emmanuel Ezeugo, recounted the origins of the chapter in 2013, highlighting the challenges faced following a tragic church bombing in Suleja that galvanized the community into action. He emphasized the importance of a strong, organized voice to advocate for justice and relief.
Ezeugo described the formation as a response to the inadequacies of existing structures, which lacked the capacity to respond effectively to crises. He noted that, over 13 years, the organization established structures in all LGAs and participated in national coordination efforts, uniting Igbo communities across northern Nigeria.
He urged the new leadership to uphold the principles of responsibility, sacrifice, and resilience, especially amid adversity.
In his acceptance speech, President Orji stressed the importance of unity and service. He promised to foster cooperation among Igbo associations in Niger State, ensure every voice is heard, and promote socio-economic development.
The inauguration was officiated by Chief George Dike, Special Adviser to the Niger State Governor on Inter-tribal Matters, represented by Professor Casmiar Obialom. Dike wished the new leadership success and encouraged ongoing counsel from the outgoing officers.
