Kaduna Government Orders Appointees Seeking 2027 Elections to Resign.
The Kaduna State Government has announced that all public officials and political appointees planning to run in the 2027 general elections should resign from their positions by March 23, 2026. This decision follows the release of an updated election schedule by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to the electoral calendar, the national and presidential elections are set for January 16, 2027, while elections for state governors and assemblies are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
To ensure a smooth electoral process, political parties are expected to begin their primaries on April 23, 2026. In line with this timeline, Abdulqadir Muazu Meyere, the Secretary to the State Government, emphasized that this measure aims to uphold electoral integrity and ensure candidates follow established regulations.
He further clarified that anyone intending to run for elective office must vacate public offices before the start of party primaries. This policy is designed to prevent potential violations and promote a transparent electoral process.
In accordance with these guidelines, all officials and government personnel wishing to pursue elected office are advised to resign by March 23, 2026. This deadline ensures candidates meet the requirement of resigning at least one month before seeking office, fostering fairness and adherence to rules.
