INEC Declares Mohammed Kasim (PDP) Winner of Gwagwalada Chairmanship Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Mohammed Kasim of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election. Prof. Philip Akpeni, the Returning Officer for the election, announced this in the early hours of Sunday.

In the official results, Kasim received a total of 22,165 votes, securing his victory. Akpeni stated, “I am the returning officer for the 2026 FCT Area Council Gwagwalada chairmanship election held on February 21, 2026. That Mohammed Kasim of PDP, having fulfilled the legal requirements, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”
The APC candidate, Yahaya Usman, garnered 17,788 votes, while Biko Umar of APGA finished third with 1,687 votes.
The election took place across 10 wards: Paiko, Dobi, Gwako, Ibwa, Staff Quarters, Zuba, Ikwa, Kutunku, Gwagwalada Centre, and Tunga Maje.
