NUJ Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel Initiates Electoral Process for 2026

The Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, has reaffirmed its support for the current leadership, led by Comrade Kenneth Orusi, and formalized preparations for the 2026 elections.

This development occurred during the Chapel’s February Congress held yesterday at the Secretariat in Asaba, where members expressed confidence in their leadership and adopted measures to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process.

During the Congress, the Chairman announced the formation of the Credentials Committee tasked with overseeing the 2026 election. Elder Ben Ogbogo was appointed Chairman, with Comrade Austin Oyibode as Secretary and Comrade Onos Agbamu as Member. The motion to empower the committee was presented by Comrade Godwin Udoh and seconded by Comrade Dorathy Mbasen Uba. The proposal was unanimously approved.

Comrade Udoh praised Chairman Orusi’s leadership, describing him as “a Chairman with a lion’s heart,” and commended the entire executive for their efforts in repositioning the Chapel for greater influence and cohesion. The Congress praised the leadership’s achievements and expressed strong confidence in their capacity to oversee an orderly electoral process.

Following the confirmation of the committee, Chairman Orusi administered the oath of office to the members, urging them to conduct their duties with fairness, transparency, and integrity. In response, Elder Ogbogo assured members of the committee’s commitment to delivering a free, fair, and credible election.

The Congress concluded with a unanimous vote of confidence in the Orusi-led administration and expressed optimism that the newly constituted electoral committee will lay a strong foundation for the 2026 elections and enhance democratic practices within the Chapel.
