ANALYSIS ON THE LIFESTYLE OF THE FORMER DEPUTY GOVERNOR, ALHAJI AHMED KETSO POPULARLY KNOWN AS “MISTER FIX” OF NIGER STATE.

Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Ketso, the former and immediate past two-term Deputy Governor of Niger State, stands out as a politician of uncommon character, discipline, and loyalty. A philanthropist, humble, patriotic, patient, compassionate, and exemplary leader, Ketso is widely known as a listening leader who relates with all without discrimination.
Deeply passionate about his religion, he is also a cleric with vast Islamic knowledge acquired through difficult moments in his early life. Popularly known as Ahmed Ketso among political associates, he is regarded as a strategic politician and a core peace-loving individual.
He began his early education at LEA Primary School, Ketso, where he obtained his School Leaving Certificate, and later attended Government Secondary School, Eyagi, Bida, where he earned his Senior Secondary School Certificate of Education (SSCE). “History is a gallery of pictures in which there are few originals and many copies”.
Ketso is a fearless politician blessed with humility, approachability, and simplicity. He remains calm regardless of political difficulties and consistently encourages his supporters and followers to remain hopeful, steadfast, and focused. These attributes distinguish him among his peers. With a deep understanding of grassroots realities and strong administrative capacity, Ketso possesses the ability to lead any organization to greatness.
He is a graduate of Sociology with a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration and is knowledgeable in Security and Intelligence. Born on July 27, 1969, he is a respected Nupe man from Ketso in Ja’agi Ward of Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State. He holds traditional institutions, elders, and community leaders in high esteem and is well known for his loyalty to party and principles. Remember that politics as a practice, whatever its profession, it has always been the systematic organization of hatred.
An accomplished executive, Ketso has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the needs of political leadership and constituents. He has proven capacity to spearhead committees and organizations, negotiate bipartisan deals, and manage divergent political interests.
During his tenure as Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Ketso served several times as Acting Governor. On such occasions, he chaired the State Executive Council where key policy and governance decisions were taken in the interest of the people. His track record speaks volumes about his reputation and character.
Ketso’s political journey began in 1993 when he became a councillorship candidate under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Jagi Ward. He later contested for the Niger State House of Assembly under the ANPP in 2007 in Mokwa Local Government Area.
He remained in opposition politics for many years before his long-awaited victory as Deputy Governor of Niger State, a position he held for eight years (2016–2023). Over time, he served as State Public Relations Officer of ANPP (2008–2010), Acting State Secretary of ANPP (2010–2012), Zonal Vice Chairman of ANPP Zone A, and Federal House of Representatives candidate representing Mokwa, Edati and Lavun federal constituency under ANPP in 2011.
Ketso is widely known for his patience and empathy for the less privileged and downtrodden in society. He derives joy in giving and impacting positively on others. Note that the best among mankind is he who brings benefit to others and have good character.
With the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2023, Ketso personally chaired the Independent Campaign Council (ICC) as State Coordinator for Tinubu 2023 Election. He carried out this responsibility with vigor and strategic focus, even while serving as Deputy Governor, to ensure victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both state and national levels.

His commitment to youth and women empowerment cannot be overemphasized. He has facilitated numerous political and civil service appointments for young people who are today serving at federal and state levels. Beyond politics, Ketso is a community leader passionate about development, peaceful coexistence, and collective progress. He was also recently appointed by the National Secretariat of All Progressives Congress as member of the Appeal Committee of Osun State Governorship Primary election.
Academically, morally, and spiritually groomed, Ketso has held several notable positions including Managing Director of Muhai Industrade Company, Managing Director of Yazeed Dynamic International, Chairman of Prime & Zuma Air Services and Tour Limited, and Chairman of Prime & Zuma Petroleum Energy Limited.
He has travelled to many countries including Egypt, Malaysia, France, South Africa, China, USA, United Kingdom, Germany, Ethiopia, UAE, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia to broaden his exposure to global economic, social, and developmental trends.
In recognition of his contributions to humanity, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, recently conferred on him the traditional title of NDALASU NUPE—a rare honour bestowed after leaving office, unlike many who seek titles while in power.
One of Ketso’s most outstanding achievements is his ability to maintain a cordial relationship with his boss, former Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, throughout their tenure, despite his personal political ambition in 2023. The former governor publicly stated that he was proud to have Ketso as his deputy and could “sleep with both eyes closed” knowing Ketso was dependable. Such testimony reflects deep trust and loyalty.
Governor Bello also nicknamed him “Mister Fix” because of his exceptional ability to resolve disputes, political disagreements, labour crises, and community conflicts. His successful interventions include reconciliation between the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ and the Niger State Government, resolution of NLC disputes, and numerous community crises across the state.

Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Ketso although with limitations as a deputy governor remains one of the Nigerlites whose political contributions cannot be ignored. He has chaired several high-level committees locally, nationally, and internationally, achieving remarkable success through his relentless commitment to duty.
His hobbies include farming, fishing, reading, travelling, playing badminton, and community development. He is happily married with children who are all doing well in their careers.
