Governor Umaru Bago Urges Federal Government to Prioritize Road Infrastructure in the state.
Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has earnestly called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts in maintaining and upgrading the federal roads throughout the state to enhance transportation efficiency.
The governor made these remarks during a meeting with the Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, at his Abuja office.
He highlighted that Niger State hosts one of the largest networks of federal roads in Nigeria, acting as a vital link between the northern and southern regions.
Consequently, he emphasized the urgent need for these roads to be rehabilitated and kept accessible for travelers.
The governor who observed with concern, persistent gridlock from Jebba-Lambata due to bad road, said movement on the road has become an herculean task for the people.
While acknowledging the federal government’s efforts to repair some roadways, he urged the quick completion of ongoing projects and pledged his administration’s support to facilitate this process.
The governor also called for proactive interventions on the Jebba and Izom-Lambata bridges to avert potential catastrophic failures.
In response, Minister Umahi confirmed that significant progress is being made on the Minna-Suleja road project, and indicated that repairs are underway on the Jebba and Lambata bridges.
He praised Governor Bago for his commitment to various sectors, including urban renewal, agriculture, health, and education, and commended his leadership in implementing numerous federal road intervention initiatives across Niger State.
The minister assured that the Ministry will review the condition of all federal roads in Niger State to enable timely and appropriate action.
