Anambra State Ends Monday Sit-at-Home School Closures with New Executive Order

By Our Correspondent

The Anambra State Government has issued an Executive Order to end the Monday sit-at-home school closures.

The government has warned that any teacher or non-teaching staff who fails to comply will face disciplinary measures, including a 20 percent salary deduction or complete forfeiture.

In a letter dated January 22, 2026, and signed by Lovline Mgbemena, Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Board, all permanent board members, local government officers, zonal directors, and departmental leaders are instructed to disseminate this information to their staff and ensure compliance.

This directive follows the January 21, 2026, exco retreat led by Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo. It mandates that all staff, both teaching and non-teaching, must attend school or work on Mondays.

The official statement, titled ‘Executive Order on Termination of Monday Sit-at-Home in Anambra State,’ states:
“Following the recent exco retreat presided over by Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, I am directed to inform you that the state government has abolished the longstanding Monday sit-at-home, effective immediately.

Any staff failing to attend school or work on Mondays will be subject to a 20 percent salary deduction or total forfeiture.

All supervisors are responsible for informing their teams and ensuring adherence to this order.

Please comply accordingly, as this is an executive decision by the state government.”
