Vandalism at NISWASEC Booster Station Dutsen – Kura, Minna

The Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation (NISWASEC) condemns a recent act of vandalism and theft at its Booster Pump Station located opposite the Police Secondary School in Dutsen – Kura, Minna.
The incident happened early Monday morning, January 20th, 2026, when about ten suspects, allegedly armed with dangerous weapons, forcefully entered the facility between 12:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. During the attack, the station’s watchman was assaulted and restrained, preventing him from intervening as the attackers vandalized vital equipment.
The vandals removed armored cables connected to the 500kVA generator set, including those linking the generator to the change-over switch. Insulators were torn away, and metal conductors stolen, with reports indicating the items were transported using a commercial tricycle (keke napep).
The incident has been reported to the GRA Police Station in Minna, and investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible and recover the stolen property.
The affected watchman is currently receiving medical treatment at Senator Idi Kuta Primary Health Centre on Old Airport Road, Minna, and is responding well to care.
The Niger State Government, NISWASEC management, and stakeholders strongly condemn this criminal act, which has disrupted water supply for residents and is an attack on public infrastructure relied on by the community.
Technical teams have been mobilized to assess the damage and begin repairs to restore services quickly.
The Ministry of Water Resources and NISWASEC urge the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities around government facilities to security authorities. Protecting public assets is everyone’s responsibility.
