Murtala Haliru Dantoro, a respected social entrepreneur from Borgu Local Government, has publicly shared strategic advice with Niger State Governor Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago regarding the ongoing security challenges and banditry issues affecting the state.
He expressed concern over the recent banditry incident involving schoolchildren in Papiri, Agwara, Borgu Emirate, describing it as a disturbing sign of broader security vulnerabilities across Nigeria.
Dantoro advocates for enhanced law enforcement, improved intelligence gathering, and collaboration with humanitarian organizations to provide psychological support to affected children.
Dantoro underscores the importance of creating a safe and nurturing educational environment, free from fear and intimidation. He attributes the rise in banditry partly to leadership disparities, emphasizing the need for fairness, cooperation among leaders regardless of political affiliations, and the utilization of modern surveillance technology.
His recommendations for the governor Umaru Bago include community policing initiatives, engagement with local volunteers and security personnel, and tackling poverty as a root cause of insecurity.
He suggests establishing a dedicated department or agency to facilitate NGO involvement in intelligence gathering and community projects.
