Niger State House of Assembly Resumes Plenary After Eight-Week Recess.

The Niger State House of Assembly has resumed plenary today, 11th November 2025, following an eight-week recess that began on 9th September 2025.

Welcoming Members back to the chamber, the House Speaker, Dokajin Borgu Rt. Hon. Barr. (Dr.) Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, explained that the recess was necessary to allow Members to prepare for the Local Government Elections. He congratulated all Members for their active participation and success in their respective local government areas.

In a welcome address delivered on behalf of the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda, who presided over today’s plenary, stated that legislative recess is a long-standing parliamentary practice. She explained that it provides lawmakers with the opportunity to step away from their busy legislative schedules to engage with their constituents and stay informed about developments within their communities.

The Speaker urged Members to make good use of the findings and feedback gathered from their constituencies during the recess. He emphasised that such information should not be ignored, but rather refined and developed into legislative actions that will promote good governance and fulfil the vision of a responsive “New Niger.”

Dr Sarkin-Daji also expressed deep appreciation to the Members of the 10th Assembly for their show of love, sacrifice, and support during his Turbaning Ceremony as the first Dokajin Borgu, held on November 7, 2025, in New Bussa. He prayed that the bond of friendship and cooperation among Members would continue to grow beyond the Assembly.

The Speaker further called on all Standing Committees with pending assignments to expedite their work and submit reports promptly. He commended Members for their sense of duty and patriotism, especially for responding swiftly to urgent matters that required Executive Sessions during the recess to ensure the progress of the State.

Dr Sarkin-Daji also appreciated the Farmer Governor of Niger State, Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago, for maintaining an exceptional partnership with the House. He noted that the strong synergy between the Executive and Legislative arms of government is helping to reform and strengthen the governance structure of Niger State in line with the “New Niger” transformation agenda.

In another development, the House, during today’s plenary, received an Executive Correspondence from the Farmer Governor, Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago, containing the Economic and Fiscal Update (EFU), Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), and Budget Policy Statement (BPS) for 2026–2028. The correspondence was read by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda, who presided over the session.

Similarly, the House also received another Executive Bill from the Farmer Governor, seeking the establishment of the Niger State Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission, 2025.

The proposed Commission will be an independent statutory body responsible for promoting, regulating, and facilitating the development of Information Technology, Digital Economy, Innovation, and Emerging Technologies in Niger State.
