Voice of Women in Leadership Initiative Brings Hope to Leprosy Patients in Minna.
The Niger State Chapter of the Voice of Women in Leadership Initiative conducted a humanitarian visit to the Chanchaga Leprosarium in Minna on Thursday to support individuals affected by leprosy.
The initiative provided essential supplies, including food items, clothing, toiletries, detergents, and cash donations to the residents of the leprosarium.
Mrs. Rita Durumi, the chapter’s coordinator, emphasized the organization’s commitment to fostering love and solidarity for those often marginalized by society.
“People affected by leprosy face severe stigma and discrimination,” Mrs. Durumi explained. “We want them to know they are not forgotten. Our prayers are with them, and we will continue to stand by them.”
During the visit, the team engaged with approximately 20 patients, delivering relief materials and offering encouragement, reinforcing their core mission of promoting inclusion and dignity for all.
Mrs. Martha Isah, representing the Chanchaga Leprosy Mission Nigeria, expressed profound gratitude for the support received from the initiative. She highlighted the center’s ongoing efforts to provide free food, medical treatment, artificial limbs, and surgeries, including amputations and reconstructive procedures, bolstered by partnerships with organizations such as TLN.
“Our mission is to care for people affected by leprosy,” Mrs. Isah noted. “However, we still require additional support, particularly for food and medical supplies.”
Highlighting the societal challenges faced by leprosy patients, Mrs. Isah called for more individuals and organizations to visit and assist those in need, echoing the sentiments shared by the Voice of Women in Leadership Initiative.
Aisha Mohammed Yusuf, a beneficiary at the leprosarium, expressed heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the patients: “We are very happy that you remembered us. The items you brought came at the right time and mean a lot to us.”
The visit by the Voice of Women in Leadership Initiative successfully brought joy and renewed hope to both patients and residents of the Chanchaga Leprosarium.
