Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery commissions remodeled Vulcan School in Kontagora Military Cantonment
The Commander, Corps of Artillery, Major General Zakari Abubakar, has commissioned a remodeled Vulcan Nursery and Primary School in military Kontagora cantonment in Niger state.
Major General Zakari Abubakar, Commander Corps of Artillery who commissioned the school in Kontagora on Friday said the school was founded in February 1995 by the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery Chapter.
He added that the school was later renamed Vulcan Nursery and Primary School in 2003 in under Lt General CI Obiakor’s command starting with a small number of pupils and a staff of three teachers.
General Abubakar Zakari said the school had grown from a few pupils and three teachers to 415 pupils and 23 staff members, adding that the renovation was made possible through the efforts of the corps and other stakeholders.
He explained that the remodeling of the school was part of the corps commitment to providing quality education for the children of military personnel.
“The welfare of troops and their families is of importance, as it directly impacts their morale, productivity and overall well-being,” he said.
He noted that the remodeling of the school was part of the Nigerian army’s efforts to enhance troop welfare and provide a conducive learning environment for the children of military personnel.
Abubakar hanked his wife, Hajiya Maryam Abubakar, who conceived the idea of remodeling the school.
He also thanked all those who contributed to the project, including Lieut.- Col. Tasunda Abdullahi, Commanding Officer, Nigerian Army Training Center Engineer Regiment and the artisans who worked tirelessly to complete the project.
He urged the teachers to maintain the infrastructure and teach the pupils with passion and advised the pupils to learn with curiosity and respect their teachers.
He encouraged parents to regularly pay the school fees and provide the necessary learning materials for their children.
In her remarks, Mrs Fumilayo Adeyemi, Headmistress of the school, expressed gratitude to the commander and the corps of artillery for the renovation.
“Today we gather here to express our heartfelt gratitude to God and the benevolent forces that have graciously bestowed upon us a renewed learning environment,” she said.
Highlights of the inauguration with cultural displays, educational programmes and presentation of souvenirs among others.
