Mokwa Flood Relief Support Group Sponsors 88 Pupils, Urges President Ahmed Tinubu to Fulfill ₦2 Billion Pledge for Resettlement Facilities.

In a commendable effort to support victims of the recent floods in the Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, the Mokwa Flood Relief Support Group has provided financial assistance to educate 88 schoolchildren and to train 41 widows and children in various vocational skills.
During a ceremony held at Beyge Primary School, the group’s Chairman, Ahmed Nasir, a retired Assistant Controller General of Customs, announced the disbursement of cheques to local school proprietors and training institutes.
He emphasized that this initiative aims to alleviate the hardships faced by flood survivors, many of whom have struggled to maintain their livelihoods and education in the aftermath of the disaster.
“Since the flood devastated the Mokwa community, numerous children have dropped out of school, and many widows are unable to support their families,” Nasir explained.
The initiative will provide educational sponsorship for students at all levels, from nursery through secondary school, while also offering skill acquisition training in tailoring, catering, and soap-making to the selected beneficiaries.
Nasir stated, “If you educate a child, you are educating humanity. If you give food to a widow, you are feeding a family.”
He acknowledged the contributions of friends and supporters from across the country who helped make this initiative possible, highlighting that the group consists of dedicated sons and daughters of Mokwa.
He also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to fulfill the earlier pledge of 2 billion naira for the construction of resettlement facilities and the provision of a 15 MVA transformer, which was promised by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a visit to Mokwa.
In appreciation, Nasir commended Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago for his swift actions in providing assistance to flood victims, stating, “Governor Bago has made us proud. He has shown true leadership and compassion by providing financial support to many victims in need of alternative shelter.”
The Ndalele of Mokwa, Alhaji Muhammadu Shaba Aliyu, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the community, emphasizing that such efforts are crucial in restoring the livelihoods of those affected.
Alhaji Bala Tanko, Head of the Hausa Community in Mokwa, also conveyed the community’s appreciation for the humanitarian efforts. Meanwhile, a representative of the school proprietors, Suleiman Jibrin, Principal of Hakimi Aliyu Secondary School, underscored the importance of sustaining the sponsorship to ensure that the pupils receive lasting benefits from the program.
This initiative by the Mokwa Flood Relief Support Group marks a significant step forward in supporting the community’s recovery and building a brighter future for its most vulnerable members.
