IBBU Lapai Set to Reopen on August 4 Following Enhanced Security Measures.
The Executive Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has announced the reopening of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, effective Monday, August 4, 2025. This decision follows a thorough review of security protocols and infrastructure enhancements within and around the university campus.
The temporary closure of IBBU was implemented due to security challenges and tragic incidents that resulted in loss of life within the university community.
In a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, and shared through Information Officer Mal. Lawal Tanko, the governor expressed satisfaction with the improved security architecture and infrastructural developments aimed at safeguarding the university community.
Governor Bago highlighted the administration’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and welfare of students and staff, ensuring that educational progress remains uninterrupted.
He emphasized the importance of education as a fundamental pillar of development and reaffirmed the government’s ongoing support for the university.
In light of the impending reopening, the SSG commended the collaborative efforts of security personnel, university authorities, and local community leaders in addressing the issues that led to the university’s closure.
