Corps members have greater stake in Nigeria’s future -NYSC DG

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Crops (NYSC), Brigadier General  Olakunle Nafiu, has emphasised to corps members that they have a greater stake in Nigeria’s future.

He said this while addressing corps members during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1, orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Paiko Local government area of Niger state.

He said that Nigeria belongs to all citizens, but corps members have a greater stake in the country’s future as the survival of the countrykes in the handa of young people.

“Nigerian belongs to all of us, but you have more stakes because you are young, brilliant, educated and you have a bright future ahead of you.

He said that the welfare of corps members was well taken care of as President Bola Tinubu had increased their allowance from N33,000 to N77,000.

Nafiu, however, called on corps members posted to Niger state to make the best use of their time, despite the state of the camp.

He said the state government is working to making the camp better than it was, adding that the state government had promised to make the camp better through construction of a permanent orientation camp.

“Subsequent batches will meet a better camp because I have been made to understand that the state government is trying to build a permanent orientation camp,” he added.

He emphasised the importance of corps members integrating into the society, learn and appreciate the culture and people of their host communities and be determined to give back to the society.

The DG urged corps members to work with the government to make the country better, help others to acquire necessary education especially those posted to school for primary assignment.

In his address, Niger State Governor. Mohammed Umaru Bago, advised the corps members to contribute to nation building and shun acts that disrupt peace and  contribute to improving the state economy.

Bago who was represented by the Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development in Niger state,
Alhaji Yahaya Gulbin-Boka, said the state was committed to the security, well-being and welfare of corps members in the state.

“On our part as government, we will continue to provide an enabling environment for you to strive in Niger state,” he said.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Coordinator of NYSC in Niger state, Mrs Martina Shuaibu-Ibrahim, emphasised the importance of orientation course and national unity, adding objectives of NYSC was to promote national unity and integration.

She urged the corps members to sustain high level of discipline and enthusiasm and continue to distance themselves from cultism, drug abuse and other social vices as well avail themselves for various training sessions.
