NLC Commends Niger State Governor for Commitment to Workers’ Welfare.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Niger State Council, has lauded Governor Dr. Umar Mohammed Bago for his unprecedented efforts in enhancing workers’ welfare and implementing civil service reforms.
This recognition was articulated by the Chairman of the NLC Niger State Council, Comrade Abdulkareem Edress Lafene, during the 2025 International Workers’ Day celebration held in Minna.
Comrade Lafene credited these achievements to Governor Bago’s exceptional dedication and visionary leadership, highlighting his unwavering commitment to improving workers’ welfare, enhancing civil service efficiency, and uplifting the ordinary citizen—an effort that remains unmatched in the history of the state.
However, the Chairman urged for urgent action on pressing issues such as the full implementation of hazard, medical, and disturbance allowances for judiciary workers, emphasizing the need to acknowledge the sensitive nature of their duties.
He also called for improvements in the state’s security infrastructure to safeguard lives and attract investments, and urged the Governor to instruct local government Chairpersons to pay all outstanding salary arrears resulting from previous percentage salary practices.
Furthermore, Lafene used the forum to appeal to government officials at all levels to recognize that a nation’s strength lies in the well-being of its workers, emphasizing that labor should be seen as a partner in progress rather than an adversary.
