NSIEC Unveils Timetable for Upcoming Local Government Elections, Ensures Integrity of the Process

In a recent meeting held at the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) office in Minna, Engineer Mohammed Jibrin Iman, the Chairman of the NSIEC, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible local government elections.
He emphasized that the electoral process will utilize the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voter register to ensure transparency and legitimacy.
During this stakeholder meeting, Engineer Imam urged all political parties to adhere strictly to electoral guidelines and regulations.
He announced the establishment of monitoring mechanisms through NSIEC Electoral Officers across the 25 local councils to oversee the conduct of party primaries.
Preparations for the upcoming elections will commence on March 6, 2025, with the elections scheduled for November 1, 2025, covering both councillorship and chairmanship positions.
The timelines for party primaries are set between March 15 and March 24, 2025, while public political party campaigns are slated to begin on May 27, 2025.
The NSIEC Chairman reiterated the importance of maintaining a peaceful electoral environment and urged all stakeholders—including politicians, voters, aspirants, and candidates—to conduct themselves in accordance with established rules to ensure a smooth and conflict-free election process.
Following a thorough examination, stakeholders present at the meeting unanimously endorsed the election timetable, which was formally adopted through a motion.
