Adamawa Governor Revokes Traditional Titles Amidst Restructuring of Chiefdoms and Emirates.

In a significant move, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has revoked the traditional titles held by himself, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Governor Boni Haruna, and several others.
This decision comes in light of the recent restructuring of emirates and chiefdoms within the state.
Governor Fintiri announced the revocation during the coronation ceremony of the newly installed Chief of Madagali.
He emphasized the necessity for all District Heads to align with the newly established emirates and chiefdoms, stating that traditional titles awarded under the previous systems are no longer valid.
The restructuring specifically impacts titles that were originally conferred under the Adamawa and Mubi emirates.
As a consequence, Fintiri has relinquished his title of Sarki Yaki Mubi, Atiku Abubakar has lost his position as Waziri Adamawa, and Boni Haruna has been stripped of his title as Makama Mubi, among other notable figures affected by this change.
To facilitate a seamless transition, the governor has instructed the traditional councils of the newly formed emirates to propose new titles, which will be subject to approval in accordance with customary laws.
Additionally, he noted that the Lamido of Adamawa has the opportunity to submit the names of Atiku and others for reconsideration, although any reappointments will ultimately require the governor’s final approval.
