An outreach specialist has encouraged women to form cooperative groups to participate in farming, enabling them to benefit from the current administration’s agricultural transformation programs.
Hajiya Aishetu Aliyu, a zonal outreach specialist, made this call while speaking with newsmen in Minna. She emphasized that organized women’s groups stand to gain significantly from the government’s agricultural transformation agenda.
The outreach program currently covers seven local government areas and has collected data on interested women’s groups that will benefit from the federal government’s initiatives.
Hajiya Aishetu Aliyu also disclosed that the outreach is collaborating with the African Development Bank to explore possible assistance for these women’s groups.
She noted that the outreach has supported these groups, particularly farmers, processors, marketers, fabricators, and tractor drivers, through federal government assistance.
She mentioned that fabricators have been trained on how to create small machines for farmers and processors, enhancing their performance in various work environments.
Additionally, training programs have been organized for farmers, and tools such as processing and milling machines have been provided to them upon completion of the training.
Hajiya Aishetu Aliyu commended farmer Umar Mohammed Bago for his new agricultural initiative and encouraged women to engage with the program to contribute to the economic development of their households and the state overall.
