NLC has instructed the Niger State govt to initiate the payment of salaries for November 2024 for LGA workers and to settle the outstanding annual leave grants owed to them.

Niger State’s organized labor has conducted several meetings to address critical issues, including the implementation of the minimum wage.

Key topics discussed included the payment of November 2024 salaries for LGA workers, excessive “Pay As You Earn” (PAYE) deductions affecting state workers, delays in the payment of annual leave grants for LGA workers, and the postponement of wage awards for local government employees and staff at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBB University) in Lapai.

After extensive discussions, the Joint State Executive Council (SEC) of the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) convened on Saturday, December 7, 2024, and reached the following resolutions:

The SEC expressed gratitude to His Excellency Rt. Hon. Umar Mohammed Bago for endorsing the ₦80,000 minimum wage agreement for workers in both the State and Local Government Areas, and for implementing this agreement for state employees in November 2024.

The SEC urged the State government to promptly initiate the payment of November 2024 salaries for LGA workers, as stipulated in the agreement signed with organized labor on Friday, November 15, 2024.

The SEC raised concerns about the excessive PAYE deductions taken from the November salaries of state workers and called for an immediate review and reimbursement for all affected workers.

The SEC urged the government to commence the payment of outstanding leave grants owed to LGA workers, as well as to settle wage award arrears for employees at IBB University in Lapai and for workers across the 25 Local Government Areas.

The SEC unanimously resolved that if the government attempts to renege on the November 15, 2024 agreement with organized labor, they will follow the directives from the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NLC and TUC and commence an indefinite strike action by midnight on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
