Niger State Governor Umaru Bago commissions newly constructed high court of justice in Lapai
Niger Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has gommissioned the newly constructed High Court of Justice in Lapai, marking a significant milestone in the state’s quest for justice and equality.
Bago who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba at the inauguration in Lapai on Thursday, described the court as a symbol of collective commitment to bringing justice closer to the people.
He explained that the judiciary play a pivotal role consolidating democracy and safeguarding the rule of law and ensuring every citizens have access to justice.
“Its impartiality and strength instil public confidence in the system, providing a sense of security to all,” he said.
He lauded the judiciary for its dedication to upholding justice, fairness and accountability and lauded the leadership style of the chief judge which had elevated the judiciary’s reputation making it a model for others.
He said the Lapai High Court symoblises the state vision to decentralised the judicial process aimed to reduce citizens’ burden, making legal remedies accessible regardless of location.
Bago expressed state government commitments to strengthening the rule of law for economic growth, social stability and good governance and called for collaboration to deliver improved services.
Earlier in her speech, the Chief Judge of Niger State Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik, said the newly constructed High Court of Justice in Lapai was a significant milestone toward a stronger, more just and equitable judiciary.
She disclosed that N100 million was appropriated for the structure in the 2024 appropriation law, adding that N83.3 million was expended covering fencing, furnishing and landscaping.
Abdulmalik called for community engagement, understanding rights and seeking justice when needed for a thriving society.
In her welcome address, the Chief Registrar, Justice Amina Musa, said the court complex was equipped with modern facilities to ensures swift and efficient justice delivery in Lapai and environs.
She pledged judiciary optimal use of the facility in upholding highest standards in judicial operations and fostering an environment where justice thrives.
The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Niger State, Justice Nasiru Mua’zu, called on the people of the area to leverage facility for the enhancement of judicial services in Lapai and environs.
