Niger State Election Petition Tribunal Shall Adhere Strictly To The Rule of Law.

 

The Chief Judge of Niger state, Justice Halima Abdulmalik Ibrahim have tasked members of the National and State House of Assembly election petition tribunal holding at Minna to ensure that they operate within the dictate of the law and in accordance to the best international practice.

The Chief Judge who was represented at the inaugural season of the election petition tribunal by the Chief register H/W Nasiru Mohammed urged the litigants and the advocates to be fare,just and orderly in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He assures that Niger state judiciary have provided all the necessary apparatus required for the smooth take-off  of the election petition tribunal and promised to further assist when need arise.

 

Earlier in her address the Chairman of Niger state electron petition tribunal, Justice Angela Otaluka in her speech said that, they are committed to ensure every participant and stakeholders in the election matters are given a level playing ground to handle their cases and exhibit thier prowess within the limited time of 180 days as prescribed by law

She urge the participant to keep to the rules and maintain the highest integrity and ethical attitude and behavior.

 

“We remind you that the procedure to be adopted in preparatory period for filling election petition and responding to it is strict and harsh and gives no room for mistakes”

She stressed that all major players must master the rules and regulations as laxity would not be allowed.

According to the head of the secretariat, Barrister Usman Jankoli ,disclosed that the registry have so far received 31 petitions across the state, senatorial,House of representatives and state House Assembly.

He said  Senate has 4 petitions, House of representatives has 8 petitions and 19 petitions for the state House of Assembly, adding  that the registry has been put on notice for additional 4 petitions of the state House of Assembly  due to re-run election held on the 15th April 2023.
