2023Poll: NEMA calls for violence free elections

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Minna Operations Office, has called for proactive measures to prevent violence during the electioneering period in Niger state and the country at large.

Hajiya Zainab Sai’du, Head NEMA Minna Operations Office, made the call in a statement to newsmen in Minna on Thursday.

She advocated for proactive measures to be taken by relevant stakeholders in order to prevent electoral crises in Niger state during and after the forthcoming general elections.

Sai’du noted that only by taking proactive as well as preventative measures would ensure peaceful and orderly electoral process.

She said the agency was concerned about the potential of electoral violence and unrest which can have devastating effects on lives and property of the people of the state and the country as a whole.

According to her, the agency is calling on all political actors, community leaders, and citizens to exercise their franchise  peacefully and refrain from any form of violence or intimidation during the electioneering period.

She added that prevention was best in disaster management, adding that it was expedient for the agency which was responsible for managing disaster to continue to sensitise the people on the need to remain peaceful particularly during the conduct of the general elections.

The head of Minna operations office called on politicians to ensure that their supporters operate within the ambit of the law, urging them to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and channel their grievances to the appropriate constitution.

She called on the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities to take all necessary measures to prevent and manage electoral crises through training of its official and adequate deployment of security personnel.

She called on Nigerians to support the agency’s efforts in promoting peace and stability during the electioneering period for peaceful and successful poll at state and national levels.
