Yuletide: Foundation distributes food, clothings to orphans, people with special needs in Niger state
A Non-Govermental Organisation (NGOs), Madako Foundation for Conflict Resolution and Empowerment, has distributed food items and clothings to orphans and people with needs in Niger state.
The mission of the foundation was to champion social change and inclusion through peaceful resolution of disputes and access to education.
Hajiya Hauwa Madako, Founder of the Foundation, said items distributed were food, clothings and economic livelihood support to widows to enable beneficiaries celebrate Christmas and new year in joy.
She disclosed that the foundation since inception four years ago, has provided social care and medical support to children with special needs and educational support to out of school orphan children.
Account to her, with support from families, friends and the community, the foundation had provided a home for a family of six ejected from a rented apartment.
“We also ensure that the children are enrolled back into school,” she said.
Earlier, Alhaji Umar Rebe, Commissioner for Normadic and Pastural Affairs and also husband to the Founder, called on well to do individuals to extend a helping hands to the needy.
He appreciated the wife of the governor, Hajiya Fatima Bago for the leadership role in galvanising women for community participation.
In their separate remarks, Mairo Mann and Hadiza Shiru, Permanent Secretaries of Ministries for Humanitarian and Disaster Management and Women Affairs and Social Development, said the gesture was inline with Gov. Bago led administration.
One of the beneficiary, Mubarak Ya’u, who is suffering from autism, said the foundation discovered him while begging for alms, enrolled him in school and supported him with a wheelchair.
The foundation was currently providing support to 79 children with special needs and paying school fees of 378 orphans and less privileged children in the state.
