Niger State Commences Planting of 10,000.00 Trees – SDGs .
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Niger State has reiterated its commitment to achieving the seventeen global goals of the Agency by the year 2030.
This was disclosed by the Secretary of the SDGs, Mallam Rufa’i Hashimu when a delegation from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Bosso Local Government CDS group paid him a courtesy visit in Minna today.
Malam Rufa’i revealed that SDGs was planning to commence planting of 10,000 trees as part of its climate Action strategy to check the negative impact of global warming including deforestation.
He said the agency is poised to exploring partnerships with development partners, individuals and corporate organisations among other stakeholders within and outside the shores of Nigeria for the purpose of achieving desired results.
The Secretary of the SDGs further disclosed that the State Government under the leadership of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago was working assiduously to host the 2023 Green Economic Summit in October this year with a view to bringing together stakeholders to chat a new course of harnessing the State’s huge green potentials for prosperity of the power State.
While advising all Corps Members serving in the State to establish School Based Clubs in all Primary and secondary schools for the purpose of propagating targets of the SDGs, Malam Hashimu urged them to key into sensitization and campaigns on the seventeen goals of the Agency, stressing that the task of achieving the goals was a collective responsibility.
Earlier, leader of the CDS group, Samuel Victor explained that the purpose of the visit was to explore areas of partnership with the agency.
According to Victor, “the visit was to further seek to know the role that Corps Members can play in order to consolidate on the gains of the SDGs”.
He intimated the management on the activities of the group which according to him, were directly in consonance with achieving the global goals.
Highlights of the meeting was presentation of sensitization materials including SDGs handbooks and fliers to the Corps Members as well as group photographs.
