Gov. Umar Bago Committed to urban Renewal drive – Comm.of finance Maikano.
Niger State Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Lawal Adamu Maikano, has stated that Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago was fully committed to the state urban renewal policy by matching his words with action.
The Commissioner mentioned this while briefing Journalists in his office recently, he emphasized that the Governor has a dream for the state in the area of infrastructure development that can attract investors,adding that this can only be achieved by opening up the state, hence the rationale behind the urban renewal drive.
He disclosed that urban renewal was one of the four cardinal points of the present administration, stressing that with the zeal which the Governor is pursuing it, it is achievable.”You can testify this from the ground-breaking for the rehabilitation and construction of Minna township roads”. this singular act shows the commitment of the Governor towards achieving the desired goals.
Hon.Maikano also said despite the lean resources of the state, the Governor has continued to demonstrate his commitment to developing the state by thinking outside the box, adding that they were carrying out government activities and still making some little savings.
Over the years,the internally Generated Revue [IGR] has grown but on a very low projection, little above 1.6 to 1.8 billion naira, by the month moving on it would translate to about 18 to 19 billion naira per Annum base on the strategies been put in place to generate about 120 billion naira in the next coming years “he stated.
‘ Though it is a long term process we are determined to achieve the Set target of Mr Governor”.
He further stated that significant amount of the debt inherited from the immidiate past administration have been settled by the administration of Mohammed Umar Bago, “am assuring you that we are making progress,if we allow the burdens of the past administration to worry us we might not progress,so the governor have drawn line,we are moving forward”.
He observed that with the urban renewal, a lot of potential will be harnessed and utilized for the benefit of the state and Niger lites, as well as creating job opportunities for the teaming Youths in the state.
Hon. Maikano said that the Governor was desirous of seeing people in the internally displaced people (IDP) camps return to their various villages to continue with their normal lives, which, according to him, shall soon be realized.
He then appealed to media practitioners in the state to project the image of the government in a positive light, as according to him, the government of Mohammed Umaru Bago was for everybody in the state.
