Two Suspects Arrested for Car Theft, Vehicle Recovered in Niger State
The Niger State Police Command has announced recent success in its efforts to combat crime and criminal activities within the state.
In a statement released to the press in Minna by SP Wasiu Abiodun, Police Public Relations Officer of Niger State, it was reported that police operatives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) arrested two suspects based on actionable intelligence.
The suspects are identified as Abdulfatai Abdulganiyu, 49, of Hotoro, Kano, and Nura Umar, 28, from the low-cost area of Bida.
According to the crime bulletin, Abdulfatai is suspected to be a member of a car theft syndicate. He was intercepted in Minna after arriving from Kano with a stolen vehicle. He was detained at a hotel along Mandela Road with a Honda CRV bearing registration number ABJ 529 DE.
During interrogation, Abdulfatai admitted that the vehicle was stolen in Kano and entrusted to him by one Musa Abdulrazak.
He stated that he collected the car at the Kano flyover on Monday, April 13, 2026, and traveled to Minna on the following day, April 14, 2026, intending to sell it.
Further investigation revealed that Abdulfatai contacted Nura Umar in Bida to purchase the vehicle. Nura was promptly arrested and found in possession of a Toyota Corolla registered in his name, with registration number Kaduna MKA 461 MZ.
Nura disclosed that Abdulfatai delivered the Corolla to him on April 8, 2026, which he purchased for one million, one hundred thousand naira, paying a deposit of seven hundred thousand naira with plans to settle the balance later.
Nura also confessed that Abdulfatai informed him about another vehicle he intended to sell but claimed he lacks the capacity to purchase it at this time.
The suspects remain under investigation, and authorities are continuing efforts to apprehend additional gang members.
