Gbegnu Boknu Yako Association Condemns Misguided Protest Against Federal University of Technology, Minna

The Gbegnu Boknu Yako Association (GBY), a prominent Pan-Gbagyi socio-cultural organization, has issued a firm condemnation of the recent protest organized by the Concerned Nigerlites Forum against the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna.

The protest was reportedly over disputes concerning the ownership of the Bosso Campus between the Federal and Niger State Governments.

In a press statement signed by Bako Wakili Bosso, President of GBY, the association stated, “We find the protest not only ill-timed but also grossly misinformed, misleading, and driven by ulterior political motives rather than genuine concern for educational development or the welfare of Nigerlites.

” The statement emphasized that FUT Minna is a federal institution established by law and that any disputes regarding land or ownership should be resolved through appropriate legal and governmental channels, not through incitement or activism.

The association also expressed concern over the unfounded call for the removal of the university’s Vice Chancellor. It dismissed this demand as baseless, malicious, and politically motivated, cautioning against involving the Vice Chancellor in administrative or jurisdictional issues without evidence of misconduct.

Such actions, the group warned, threaten the stability and progress of the institution.

Additionally, GBY highlighted the background of the protest organizer, noting a pattern of “commercial activism” aimed at inciting public sentiment for personal or political gain, rather than genuine civic engagement.

The association unequivocally rejected and condemned the protest in its entirety. It urged the people of Niger State and the wider public to disregard claims made by the organizers, asserting they do not represent the collective interests of the populace.

Finally, GBY called for patience and dialogue, emphasizing the importance of due process and lawful engagement between federal and state authorities to peacefully resolve any outstanding issues.

It stressed the need to protect educational institutions from politicization that could hinder their core missions of education, research, and community service.

The Gbegnu Boknu Yako Association remains dedicated to fostering peace, unity, and constructive engagement for the development of our state and nation.
