Niger Assembly Committee Conducts Oversight Visit to Water Facilities in Minna

The Niger State Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation Services, led by Commissioner Engineer Farouk Umaru Audi, in collaboration with Permanent Secretary Akilu Musa Kuta and other senior management staff, hosted members of the Niger State House of Assembly Committee on Water Resources and Irrigation Services during an official oversight visit to key water infrastructure facilities in Minna.
The oversight committee, chaired by Honourable Abdulmalik Bala Yakubu, indicated that the purpose of the visit was to fulfill the Assembly’s constitutional obligation to evaluate the state of water infrastructure across the region and to identify challenges impacting water supply to residents.
During the inspection, the team examined the Bahago Reservoir, which has a storage capacity of one million liters. They also inspected the Bosso Water Treatment Plant, established in 1976, with a treatment capacity of approximately 4.2 million cubic meters, assessing its operational condition and the obstacles to optimal performance.
The committee additionally toured the Bosso Secondary School water tank, with a capacity of half a million liters, and the Dutsen Kura booster station, both integral to the distribution of potable water within Minna metropolis.
Further inspections included the Tagwai Dam, which supplies raw water via the river channel to Chanchaga Water Works for treatment and distribution. Officials highlighted that these facilities remain vital components of the state’s water supply network but require ongoing maintenance and upgrades to meet increasing demand.
During the visit, Engineer Farouk Umaru Audi, the state Commissioner for Water Resources, reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to enhancing water supply services throughout the state. He noted that this oversight exercise is essential for identifying sector challenges and fostering stronger collaboration between the executive and legislative branches to develop sustainable solutions to water scarcity issues in Niger State.
